The most exciting news I have to report this week is that I purchased a bar cart! It’s brass and wood with leather details and I love it. Aside from a nearly empty bottle of scotch and three mini bottles of scotch (I am my papa’s granddaughter), it’s a pretty lonely looking piece of furniture right now. If you are reading this and were just thinking “wow, I’d really love to buy Megan a gift because she is awesome!” The answer is: send booze and cocktail ingredients.
I will report back in a month when I have perfected my cocktail game – mostly consisting of scotch cocktails or champagne cocktails.
In other news, I’d like to take a moment to ask anyone who supports the new health care bill to go throw themselves off a cliff. Please and thank you.
Recipes I tried
Rotisserie chicken is the most underrated item of food in the world. Period. Why would you ever buy raw chicken when you can buy a whole, juicy, perfectly tender chicken for $6? My favorite cheap meal is to buy a rotisserie chicken and cook up a variety of sides and sauces to add a bit of variety. This week I made chicken pitas (surprise surprise).
In other things you should not buy: Tzatziki sauce. Make your own! It’s cheaper and always better. Buy a large container of greek yogurt – whole, none of this 0% or 2% nonsense. It makes it watery and frankly, you are going to die from so many other things before whole greek yogurt gets you. Then buy one cucumber (depending on size) and grate it into a bowl lined with paper towels. Squeeze out all of the water. Seriously – you will regret it if you skip this step. Then add dill – I use a mix of fresh and dried, lemon zest and juice, and minced garlic if you so choose.
I also bought roasted red pepper hummus, consumed it all in two days and decided I needed to try to make my own. It worked! It was delicious! I ate all of that in two days as well! Tattoo the word hummus over my heart because it is all that is good and pure in this trash world. Similar recipe here.

Love Notes
Pigment: Honestly, I should have my paychecks direct deposited into Pigment. This North Park store is right out of my dreams. I had a gift card to use up, because someone loves me and knows a gift card to Pigment is the best present I could possible receive, and I spent two whole hours in the store. This is a regular occurrence anytime I enter. Speaking of bar cart accessories, I spotted so many things I wanted and somehow restrained myself. I guess this is 27.
Tonight I am headed up to San Clemente for a belated birthday celebration with my friend from UCSC. The rest of the weekend will consist of hunkering down and catching up on some writing and hopefully stopping by the San Diego Flea Market on Sunday.
